The reading series launched in January 2025 to mark the centenary of the Bauhaus in Dessau will continue in a modified form in 2026. Two of the three readings will reverse the perspective in ‘The Bauhaus Comes to Town,’ while the third and final reading of the quarter will return to the chronological format and focus on important and interesting events in ‘Dessau 1926.’ This will be the case for the first time at the March reading. The reading will take place on 31 March 2026, 6 p.m., at the Dessau-Roßlau City Archives, Heidestraße 21 (Alter Wasserturm).

The reading will present the events in Dessau in politics, urban development, industry, crafts and trade, art, dance, theatre and music, fashion, literature, sports, clubs and many other areas that moved the people of the city at that time. In 1926, these included: the creation of a special police ‘Dessau assault squad’, the 25th anniversary of the chemical engineering school for women, the housing shortage in Dessau, nature conservation in Anhalt, the establishment of modern waste disposal in the city, a business relocation almost overnight, difficulties on the labour market, a day of remembrance for the victims of the World War, the second Anhalt Press Ball and the appearance of a nude and beauty ballet.
