‘Dessau 1926’ reading series – July to September
Reading with Andreas Hillger and Frank Kreißler
Tuesday, 29 September 2026,
6.00 pm,
Bauhaus Museum Dessau, Mies-van-der-Rohe-Platz 1
The reading series launched in January 2025 to mark the ‘100 Years of the Bauhaus in Dessau’ anniversary will continue in 2026 in a modified format. In ‘The Bauhaus Comes to the City’, two out of every three readings will reverse the perspective, whilst the third and final reading of the quarter will revert to the chronological format, focusing on important and interesting events in ‘Dessau 1926’. This will again be the case for the September reading. The reading will take place on 29 September 2026 at 6.00 pm at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, Mies-van-der-Rohe-Platz 1.
The reading will explore events in Dessau across the fields of politics, urban development, industry, crafts and trade, art, dance, theatre and music, fashion, literature, sport, club life and many other areas that engaged the city’s inhabitants at the time. Among other things, these included, in the third quarter of 1926: the founding of a German Realkreditbank based in Dessau; discussions about the Bauhaus estate in Dessau-Törten and the professorial titles at the Bauhaus; the 481st Dessau Shooting Festival, a guest performance by the ‘Gleich’ Giant Circus, a mosquito plague, the opening of the ‘Schillerpark’ sports ground, the question ‘Should ladies be allowed to smoke in public?’, the launch of two new bus routes by the Dessau Tramway Company, the maiden flight of the Junkers G 31, and the city’s acquisition of the Kornhaus.
The Dessau-Roßlau City Archives and the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation invite you to this event.
Admission is free.
