The Complutense Polyglot -
a masterpiece of linguistic studies of the sacred writings and the art of printing
Lecture by PD Dr. Stephan Flemming (University of Jena) in the lecture room of the Old Water Tower.
Thursday, 20.10.2022 at 3:00 p.m.
The Complutensian polyglot is the focus of the afternoon. It is a very rare edition of the Bible that appeared in Spain at the beginning of the 16th century. PD Dr. Stephan Flemmig, a member of staff at the Historical Institute of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, will talk about the environment and origins of the Bible, its printing and its distribution. With his lecture, he will give an insight into scholarly biblical textual criticism on the Iberian peninsula and place this Bible printing in the context of the Bible editions of the first half of the 16th century.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, 20 October 2022, 3 p.m., in the lecture room of the Old Water Tower in the Archivverbund Dessau, Heidestraße 21. The Archivverbund and the Verein für Anhaltische Landeskunde cordially invite all interested parties.
A completely preserved copy of this polyglot from the Fürst-Georg-Bibliothek will be presented at the lecture in the original.
